What does it mean? 

Atherosclerosis is a disease of the arteries where there is a buildup of fats and cholesterol, which forms a plaque in the artery. Over time, this plaque will harden and cause the artery to narrow and harden. Atherosclerosis is a major cause of cardiovascular disease.

“The patient suffered a heart attack caused by atherosclerosis in the coronary arteries.”
